Is it all a scam?
Josh Dorkin over at Time For Blogging has a great breakdown of what he describes as the Proliferation of Blogs About Nothing. I have to admit that I too was sucked into this Vortex of rationalization at first. I quickly realized the slippery slope that exists and wanting to avoid tumbling down that Angle of Repose, decided to do my fair share of research into the world of internet and online marketing. Is it legitimate? Of course. See my previous post about how much money Google makes in advertising (1 out of every 2 dollars spent in 2006, totaling about $8 billion!) But what are we really marketing?
If I buy a product that advertises a commission for reselling it, and the product itself is advertising how to make money by selling that very product, then it becomes nothing more than a large pyramid scheme. However, after having purchased a few of these, the best ones contain legitimate information about marketing regardless of the product.
Using some of these tips, I recently recommended to my accountant that he create a “Free Report” to offer subscribers detailing the Seven Most Common Mistakes Small Business Owners Make. Now if I had made that title a hyperlink, would you have clicked on it? Would you be interested in this Free Report?
I promise you that won’t link to any affiliate reselling programs that are unscrupulous or immoral. Anything I promote is something that I have used and found useful, and would hope that you can do the same. Of course, I hope that you find this blog useful as well, and spread news of it to all your friends as well!
