Site Visits Increase Fourfold with One Simple Technique

As you may know, Kevin Everett of the Buffalo Bills was seriously injured during opening day of the NFL season this past Sunday. I have a special intersted in sports medicine, and thought about his injury a lot. I thought about how rare it is to have an on-field injury of that severity, I thought about what type of injury he may have had, and how his on-field treatment may have differed from a high-school football players injury, for example.

What really intrigued me, was the use of “ice-cold saline” that was reported in nearly every major news story.

While these thoughts were in the back of my mind, I was surfing the net, looking for inspiration for this blog, my “money blog”. (As opposed to my career blog, or my hobby blog). Ironically, I came upon a nice article on LinkBaiting. As per the norm, I cannot locate the article right now. But while reading it, a simple linkbaiting tactic jumped out at me.

Blog about current events!

If your blog can give a unique presentation of a current event and it’s appropriate to your audience, then blog it up, and watch the search engine referrals roll-in! The new visitors won’t stick, of course, unless the rest of your blog contains similar content that they may be interested in. But if your “linkbaiting” article fits with your blog, you could see the same success that I did in just one day!

My visits increased Fourfold!

Below is a screenshot of my SiteMeter statistics for the past week. I went from about 60 hits a day to 240 hits for yesterday alone! All from one article I wrote that provided unique insight into the current topic of Kevin Everett’s injury and the use of cold saline for treatment.

Sitemeter Stats following Kevin Everett Post

There are several reasons why this technique worked for me, but the biggest one is that there were a lot of people searching for information on Keven Everett and Ice Cold Saline for Spinal Injury treatment.

How many people blogged about it? Only a few. I was the first search hit for many of the search terms used. How awesome is that?

So keep an eye on the news, and when you find a hot story that’s even remotely related to your site content, blog it up & watch the hits roll in!

  1. I have visited quite a few blogs and always wondered why, out of the blue, the author would post about a current event. You have explained this technique very well and I think I just may have to try this on my own site. I think your most important statement is to choose a current event that is relevant to your site, I am going current even hunting now, ta-ta.

  2. Lynee, You’ve invented a new sport, Current Event Hunting. What was most satisfying about this is that it was a naturally occuring post in my blog… I was SHOCKED to see how many site visits I had the next day. I’m still getting hits, but it’s tapered off. It just goes to show you how fickle web searchers are (it’s old news already!)
