Who Else Wants a News Styled WordPress Theme? Six Great Designers Inspire Us!

This collection of themes takes Word Press to the level of a true content management system.  Complex layouts based on a CSS grid design make use of space for features, photos and yes, even ad spots if you are monetizing your blog.

You won’t find these themes on wordpress.org, at least I didn’t, so I’ve collected the links here.  Many links go directly to desingners sites.  Some themes are for sale, but many “premium” style themes are available for free.  Please leave the designer a comment and let them know you support their work.

Can’t afford a premium theme?  Both Jello Wala Mello and Mimbo 2.0 are free, and both designers take you inside the inner workings of the templates, especially Darren Hoyt, creator of Mimbo.  In fact, Darren’s insight on styling and coding word press should be required reading for anyone interested in customizing word press.

Magnus Jepson – A freelance designer who lives in Norway.   He has a portfolio, as well as free wordpress themes.

Darren Hoyt not only designs amazing themes, but blogs about their inner workings as well. Check out Mimbo 2.0, his latest design.

Brian Gardner has a number of premium news style themes that inspire even simple minded blogs, including Revolution Tech, Revolution News, Revolution Sports , Revolution Magazine and the original Revolution

Small Potato has a great News style theme called Jello Wala Mello that you can see in action at this Fly Fishing Gear Blog and eBay store (it’s mine!)

Adii Shares with us his Block Magazine News style theme.

Michael Pollock has a powerful Magazine style layout with five different homepage themes and four different category / archive page layouts.
